Thank you for your support!

I am honored that I had so many people vote for me. Really, I had so many individuals who trusted what I stood for, felt comfortable with having me represent them, and wanted me to take their concerns to Raleigh.

There are a lot of ways to look at this election. The obvious is, “I lost.”  I did not lose as an election is always about choice. More total votes went toward Annie Mobley to represent them than me.

With that decision, Annie Mobley needs to acknowledge that she has not been the best representative for the District. With 41% of the people voting for me, she cannot accept that the way she was doing business fully supports the people’s desires in the District.

My stance was in loving God, being proud to be an American, following our Constitution, having a conservative approach to governance, being accessible to the people represented, and getting jobs into the community. I acknowledge that the District is in dire straits with so many people living in poverty and so many so close to being in poverty. I see so many people wanting to work, but cannot because the job creation environment (taxation rate for one thing) is terrible in this State and District.

I felt that it would be an honor to represent the people of the District; with that, I ran this campaign on less than $2,300.  Most of that money came from my pockets. I did this because I felt strong about being a citizen representative beholding to the People. I did not wish to ask for funds from so many people who are struggling. Did my method work?

Looking at how the people voted indicates that the people liked my message. I received 8,211 total votes, of which, 5,772 votes where by people who specifically hit the “Matthew (Matt) Peeler” button. I was able to demonstrate to that many people that I would be a proper representative and voice for them in Raleigh. In contrast, my opponent received 4,004 votes who specifically hit “Annie Mobley”. In each of the four counties, I had more people want me to represent them. I had more people trusting me specifically to take our concerns to Raleigh. On issues and character the people evaluated me and Annie and that many people wished to have me represent them. For that, I am truly humbled and honored.

What I ask the people is to hold Representative Mobley to those standards and desires you saw in me. I hope she realizes that she must change her way of representing the people. Too many people did tell her that she is not representing them properly, like the citizen in Kelford passionately told her recently, with how the voting went this cycle.

I send my thanks to those who voted for me and to those who worked so hard in the background helping spread my message. From the folks who worked the polls, to setting out the signs, to walking the district, to making calls, the list is huge. Thank you. Yet one common thread in all those who worked on my behalf was the love of God in your hearts and a desire to make the District better for all of us.

To have so many people specifically point to me and say, “Matt, I trust you will look after me and my family and you will help our State become better” is an honor I will always cherish.

Thank you for that trust and God bless.
